# AcreBTC Vault Transition & Wind Down FAQs

Acre is in the wind-down phase for the acreBTC vault, and that transition is underway now. Deposits are paused, Acre Points have stopped accruing, and redemptions are open. Thank you to everyone who deposited, tested, reported issues, and showed up in the community. Below is what happened, what it means for your balance, and how to redeem. The information here applies to every depositor equally, and we are here to support redemptions across the board.

### What's happening?

**Is Acre shutting down?** The acreBTC vault is winding down, following the announcement made in June 2026. The vault is not continuing and there is no path to keep earning through it. Our focus now is making sure everyone exits cleanly.

**Why is the vault winding down?** This follows from the June 2026 announcement and the direction of the team. We're not able to share more detail beyond that, but we wanted to give clear notice and a straightforward path to redeem rather than leave anyone guessing. ### How does this affect me?

**What happened to Acre Points?** Points stopped accruing as of September 1, 2026. The transition does not carry forward TVL in the acreBTC vault, the community program, or existing points value. We appreciate everyone who showed up for it. See Historical Reference for the Acre Points program as it operated before this change.

**Can I still deposit?** Not at this time. Please redeem your existing Bitcoin or tBTC deposits. Deposits are paused for the transition period; there is no active timeline to reopen them.

**What if I do nothing?** Your acreBTC balance will remain in the contract. acreBTC does not trade anywhere, but it continues to exist and represents your claim on redemption. It will not be deployed into any additional strategies. There's no deadline to redeem, but we recommend doing so while the team is still available to help through November 30, 2026.

### What do I need to do?

**How do I redeem my Bitcoin?** See Redeeming on bitcoin.acre.fi for the full walkthrough. In short: your acreBTC balance is a number of shares, not a number of bitcoin. See Understanding Your Redemption Rate to calculate what you'll receive before you start.

**What if my balance is below the normal redemption threshold?** Deposits below 0.01 BTC can't be redeemed to native Bitcoin, but can be recovered by selecting an EVM address and signing with your Bitcoin wallet. This returns tBTC directly. See Redeeming on bitcoin.acre.fi.

**I deposited tBTC rather than BTC. What do I do?** tBTC deposits are redeemed directly through the smart contract. There is no frontend flow for tBTC positions, and you are not subject to the Threshold Network's 0.20% conversion fee. **Does Acre charge anything to redeem?** No. Acre's exit fee was set to zero in May 2026. The only cost is the Threshold Network's 0.20% fee if you redeem to native Bitcoin, plus the Bitcoin network fee. Both avoidable by redeeming to an EVM address and receiving tBTC instead.

**How long do I have to redeem?** There is no deadline. We'd encourage redeeming while the team is still available to help with technical issues, through November 30, 2026. After that date, redemptions remain live via Etherscan and bitcoin.acre.fi, but the team will no longer be available for support tickets.

### What happened to my balance?

**I see a loss on my balance, was there anything to do to offset it?** One specific pricing gap was corrected. [See What Happened: The Vault Strategy](/start-here-acrebtc-vault-transition/what-happened-the-vault-strategy.md) for the full detail on what that was and, importantly, what it was not.

**Will depositors be compensated for the loss?** No. The loss is reflected in the share price and applies to every share equally, the same rate for everyone, regardless of when you deposited or when you redeem. Redeeming sooner or later does not change what you receive. The loss is because of the strategy performance and market conditions. 

**Did the deposit and redemption system work as expected?** Yes. Deposits, redemptions, and the integration with the strategy operated as designed throughout. The loss reflects strategy performance and the market environment, not a system failure.
